nurse notes

Welcome back Kelso C-7 Families.  Hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday with your families.

During our break we have seen an upswing in influenza A cases.  Most common symptoms parents have been sharing with me are:

  • Severe headache

  • Fever

  • Sore throat

  • Vomiting

  • fatigue

This is not a complete list but the most common. Other symptoms are cough, runny nose, chills and diarrhea.  After speaking with a few ER staff members at SFMC they have reported a severe uptake in influenza A cases over the past week.  The number of cases seen right now are what we usually do not see until January/February.

Flu and other viruses spread mainly by droplets made from when someone coughs, sneezes or talks.  These droplets can land in the mouth or noses of people nearby.  A person can get the flu by touching something that has the flu virus on it and then touching their mouth, eyes, or nose.

We encourage people to do frequent hand washing and extra cleaning of hard surfaces.

We need your help.  If your family has any of these symptoms please stay home and call your doctor.   Students with fever, diarrhea or vomiting should stay home till symptom free for 24hrs.

As always, feel free to reach out to me anytime.

Sincerely,

Stacy Rongey RN
