The Kelso C-7 Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Below is a summary of key discussions, celebrations, and decisions that impact our school community.

Two Minutes of Good:  

We were proud to hear from Mrs. Regina Merrell (Middle School SPED) and Mrs. Penny Hale (7th Grade Teacher) as they shared positive highlights from our classrooms. 

Archery Program Update:  

Andrew Mothershead, Conservation Agent, shared exciting information about our MDC Archery Program and opportunities for student involvement.

2026–2027 School Calendar Approved

The Board approved the school calendar for the upcoming year. We appreciate the collaboration and planning that goes into creating a calendar that supports student learning and family needs. The calendar will be on the district website soon.

Local Assessment Plan Approved

The district’s Local Assessment Plan was approved, ensuring we continue to monitor student learning and growth effectively.

Health Insurance Update

The Board approved the OSBA health insurance proposal for the 2026–2027 school year. The district will contribute $600 per month per full-time employee, continuing our commitment to supporting staff.

Long-Term Substitute Pay Policy Approved

A new policy was approved to provide consistency and fairness in long-term substitute compensation.

Safety Update

The Board reviewed updates on:

  • Emergency preparedness drills

  • Ongoing work of the Safety Team

  • Building safety improvements

Program Evaluation

The Board reviewed evaluations for:

  • Library & Media Services

  • Curriculum

These evaluations help guide continuous improvement across the district.

Principal’s Report Highlights:

  • Positive Office Referrals celebrating student success

  • Updates from Administration and Special Education

Superintendent’s Report Highlights:

  • Middle School discipline trends and supports

  • Beta Club Convention trip recap

  • Legislative updates impacting education

  • Ongoing CSIP (Continuous School Improvement Plan) work

The Board approved the following staffing items for the 2026–2027 school year:

Probationary Certified Contracts were offered to Kamryn Scherer, Sarah Seabaugh, Regina Merrell, Katelyn Jansen, Crystal Bentley, Anna Wagner, and Kim Riley.

Permanent Contracts were offered to LeShae Hann and Victoria Wittig

New Hire: Stephanie Higgins was hired as a substitute custodian and food service employee.

There will be a special Board meeting on March 24, 2026 at 5:00 pm.  The next regular Board of Education meeting will be April 13, 2026 at 6:00 pm.
