January Board of Education  Newsletter

The Board of Education met on January 17, 2024, for regular business meeting.  In addition to regular business, here's the highlights of the  meeting.

Two Minutes of Good

Each month the District's CTA has members share "Two Minutes of Good" about their classrooms. This month fifth grade/reading teacher, Mrs. Anna Wagner, and sixth grade/science teacher, Mrs. Sarah Schubert shared their projects and a little what students are learning in their classrooms.

Phase III - Classrooms and more!

With our community's help, the next phase of building is just around the corner!  The Board of Education approved the resolution calling for a special school bond election on  April 2, 2024.  The bond will allow the district build two additional classroom spaces as well as expand the parking lot.

The Board also approved the agreement between Kelso C-7 School and Zoellner Contractors for the above classroom expansion project.

The formation of the campaign committee was discussed.  If you would like to volunteer for the bond campaign, stay tuned here!  We will be sharing information very soon.

Opposition to Open Enrollment

The District passed a resolution in opposition to  open enrollment last night.  The resolution reads as follows:

WHEREAS, the Board of Education has resolved to focus resident taxpayer resources upon the education of students who reside in the District;

WHEREAS, no credible research shows that open enrollment improves student achievement; and

WHEREAS, open enrollment will result in a significant adverse financial impact on public schools;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Kelso C-7 School District hereby resolves to oppose any legislation providing for open enrollment in Missouri public schools of non-resident students.

Open enrollment has been a regular topic for public schools.  We encourage our families and community to look into the issue and its impact on not only our school, but community.   The current piece of legislation is Missouri HB 1989.
